Tucson Gem Show First-Timer's Guide (2027)
Everything a first-time visitor needs for the 2027 Tucson Gem Show: when to go, which shows are free, what to bring, cash, parking, getting around and shipping.
What it is
The Tucson Gem, Mineral & Fossil Showcase is dozens of independent shows running at once across the city. Visit Tucson's 2025 economic impact study counted 52 participating shows, 6,709 vendors and 113,342 buyers, with $286.3M in direct spending.
When to go
The 2027 winter shows run January 27 – February 14, 2027 (Visit Tucson), with a few venues open from Jan 13 to Feb 15 (TucsonGemShow101). The busiest stretch, when almost everything is open, is the last week of January through the first week of February. See the 2027 schedule.
Is it free?
TucsonGemShow101 says most shows are free and open to the public. The Main Show at the Tucson Convention Center (Feb 11 – 14, 2027) charges admission. A few big venues (GJX, AGTA, G&LW) are wholesale only. See wholesale vs public shows.
What to bring (per TucsonGemShow101)
- Water, snacks, sunscreen, sunglasses and lip balm
- Cash, ID and business credentials if you're buying wholesale
- A backpack or shoulder bag (big rolling suitcases are hard to use in crowded aisles)
- Comfortable shoes and layers
- A phone power bank, plus a loupe and flashlight if you're buying stones
Cash
Many vendors take cards, but TucsonGemShow101 calls it a cash-heavy event. Cash helps when negotiating and is often required for parking. ATM lines get long.
Getting around
The venues are spread out, and a rental car is the most efficient way to get between them. Rideshare also works. Our venue data notes the GemRide shuttle isn't running for 2027. Downtown, every city garage is within walking distance of the Sun Link Streetcar (City of Tucson). See the parking guide.
